Mancs - Sierra Estate BOB V6 turbo

Thanks guys, I hope it will perform as well as it looks! Exhaust manifold is also done, injectors are in the rail (rb25det 370cc), welded the original fuel pressure regulators place, made the fuel in/outlet at the back of the engine, and I will use aeromotive fuel pressure regulator. Not the cheapest solution, but I think of it as an investment. And it looks fancy as fcuk

Next up is the wiring for the vems ecu, and oil lines, heatshielding the exhaust manifold, and making the downpipe etc etc.. Still lot to do

My "impossibru" big water radiator is ready. It is quite extreme, but I wanted to make a very big radiator, so later if I want to build a biturbo 10 liter V8 (not going to happen probably ), than I could use the same radiator. Also, its not rare to have around 35-40° here in the summer, so better safe than sorry.

Actually, after testing, and making some modifications (I want to add even more adjustablity), I want to make a few sets, as lot of friends want to buy one for them self. Its going to be cheaper then the tilton, I guess its going to be in the pricerange of the OBP pedal boxes, but with more features, so if you are intrested, sure, just wait a few months untill I'v done the testing

Is this floor or under dash mounted?

Floor mounted!

Most of the people I know who changed their stock pedal box used floor mounted boxes. Only time you want to use dash mounted, is when you cant move your seat back, as you need a bit more space with the floor mounted box because of the master cylinders. But usually thats not a problem. If you already had a cage in the car, then it can be a problem But I could easily make a dash mounted box, it only needs a few redesigned parts.

I am going to mod my Capri some day without back seat and have a roll cage, but atm I am going to need a dash mounted version.

Actually mounting this upside down isnt a problem, but the master cylinders would be facing the front of the car, so I don't see the advantage over a stock pedal box (exept for the balance bar setup). I would make the cylinders face the drive, so you save up a lot of space in the engine compartment.

I had enough of the compromises, so its not going to be street legal any more. But this opens up a lot of oportunities. The water radiator will be refitted in the back of the car. I'm not sure yet, but I might change to an electric waterpump, and maybe electric power steering pump as well. Putting in a RCI fuel cell, and maybe putting a cage in it...

And I got another car, just so I have a streetlegal fun car:


Its a 1.6 monster at the moment, but I bought a cosworth scorpio as well (BOA), so the project is to put the two cars together, with the wagons old stuff I wount be using (transmission, clutch, etc), and use it whenever I feel I need to have some fun

Small update...

The radiator has been mounted in the rear!


Also, the sedan is coming along nicely. The scorpio rear suspension is in, this weekend we will install the front as well, and mount the engine hopefully...

So things are in the finishline! A friend of mine is helping me out, he made real good progress!

Got my welded transmission (BMW 30D 5 speed), and we made a shifter for it. Used uniball to make the shifting feel real great, and worked out great!

Some other stuff done (no pics), exhaust, oilcooler, complete fuel line plumbed with aeromotive fuel pressure regulator, seat position is final... Etc.

I really like what you are doing with the BOB engine. I have just bought one for my Capri today. Can I ask you what gearbox you are using. I have heard that the type 9 is not strong enough and you should use a MT75 gearbox. It is very difficult to get an MT75 which fits a V6 engine.

Any help with this would be appreciated

Hey man!

Just wrote it a post ago! 5 speed 30D BMW transmission (either 530D or 330D). It has titan syncros, and can take a lot of abuse. Also they are dirt cheap (at least here in hungary).

The original type 9 isnt up to the task, although I read that after the HD (heavy duty) upgrade its much better. Mt75 is a bit stronger, but still, for the 24V turbo its not enough on long term.

Thank you for the information. What was involved in adapting the BMW gearbox to the Cosworth engine. What clutch etc did you use? Do you have any photos of the gearbox adapter plate? Also what starter motor did you use with the BMW gearbox.

We didnt use an adapter plate, we welded a V6 automatic transmission to the bmw transmission. Measuring, and welding it. A company made it for me.

I use the stock flywheel, stock starter (as it has its mounts on the piece from the automatic trans), APRacing clutch with 6 puck sinter, and with bmw center of course.

Thank you again for this information. Do you know what year the BMW 330D or 530D gearbox is from or what year would be suitable. I think that this is a very good idea and I would be very interested in trying to use the BMW gearbox in my car.

I will go to the local car dismantler next week and look for a suitable gearbox.

Tom: Only 2 types of 30D transmission was made (as far as I know), 5 speed, and 6 speed, so if its a 5 speed, you have your tranny For street use I would recoment a 6 speed, as bmw tranny's have a 1:1 gear for 5th speed, and the ford uses 0.75 (if I remember correctly). So you would need a really long final drive. 3.3 is the longest as I know. But the 6 speed is triple the price :/

Thanks for the interest in my project. I will definitely put up a build thread. Not much going on at the moment as I am still welding in patches to fix the dreaded Capri rust problems. Work is quite slow as I have many other projects going on also.

Current status is:
- Collect 2.9 24v engine tomorrow
- Finish building the Megajolt ECU and get it working. (still waiting for processor from China)
- Source a gearbox
- Finish welding and paint the engine bay in preparation for the engine transplant.

I was looking at the BMW gearbox ratios and they will not really work well with the atlas. I need to check the axle ratio but I think that I have a 3.09:1 fitted.

Yes the 3.09 sounds a little long, but dont forget, that the bimmer tranny is a bit shorter than the usual ford trannys!

BTW here is some motivation, not really a capri fan, but I definitely would love this in my (non existing) garage:

Nich photo. I looked up the photo and it is an Irish car also. About an hours drive from where I live. I hope my car is half as good as this when it is finished.

Maybe the BMW tranny might work well enough with the long ratio on the axle. It is for road use so don't need to be spinning the wheels all the time, just now and again!
