Newbie and a Novice

Hey guys...

I LOVE YOUR WORK AND I AM A HUGE FAN...... Your all absolute geniuses

I am a newbie of sorts to Turbos and high performance engines but i have a Capri 2.8 V6 and its just a Toy and for the winter i would like to tackle a project and i have been thinking about a Ford V6 2.9 BOB engine, i am in the research mode at the moment before i take anything on i want to know what i am doing...

I admit i would love to fit a turbo OHH HOW I WOULD but i dont think i will be able to manage that with being a bit of a novice...

Any help or advice you can offer would be amazing....

Here is the Capri currently named the Old Spice Capri but changing the name now to Mental Spice Capri :-) The reason for the Old Spice is, well i won the car in a radio competition :-P
















Yep it has a built in Old Spice holder which comes in handy for coins lol

Nice car!

I suggest the cologne 2.9 if you want to try out turbo. With the right parts i have maps for megasquirt that will work right away

the Cologne 2.9 is that the one that is found in the Ford Granada, XR4 and Scorpio (BOA engine?)

what parts would you recommend for a starter build and then progress to a turbo both mechanical (mounts, gearbox, etc), electrical and vacuum? what brakes would you advise and how to keep it on the road.... i would like to aim for 300bhp if that is possible to start

Cologne 2.9 that i mean is the 12valve engine common in sierra and scorpio

A turbo from a lorry, for example Garrett gt40 or Holset HX35
Simple exhaust manifold
350cc injectors
Megasquirt 1 v3.0
Walbro 255 fuelpump
Reinforced cosworth clutch
Intercooler

With this you can achive 350bhp easy

now that sounds like a cracking set up :-D what gear box set up would you go for? and the wiring harness would you use the 12v loom out the donor car? are there any things i would need to worry about for example PATS or VIS, etc

To high compression and it´s expensive to change parts in the 24v engine to achive lower compression.

there is a thread in this section that diskuss turbocharging v6

oh to add to teh above do i need to beef up the internals or make any alterations while the engine is out and being cleaned up??

on the 12v you can mount the turbo without dissembling the engine

would you up rate anything at all lol..... if not that means it will be a lot cheaper lol.....

I assume (excuse my stupidity) the Maguire Squirt is a new ECU for the set up to allow the turbo set up :-)

did you make a lot of custom parts, manifolds, turbo pipes, etc

My paycheck ain´t that big so with limited money it´s necessery to make own manifolds and so on


The standard fuelsystem can´t handle turbocharging. An aftermarket fuelsystem is needed and Megasquirt is a cheap one

i am starting to feel taking a project on like this may be above me both engineering and cost wise, i have viewed a few other 2.9 conversions and they seem extremely complex, the most expensive part looks like it could be the mega squirt but I SO BADLY want to hit 300BHP
