| Hej Here's some pics of my project, 1970 MK1 Escort. Started as a 1300 auto, then 1600 auto, 1600 HC manual, 2L pinto & 38DGAS weber. Now a "Performance Thumpers" race built 2L pinto, twin 45mm webers, ported big valve head, Kent GTS1 cam kit, cosworth rods, VW pistons. Dyno'd 149.6hp at the wheels. Has run a 14.5sec 1/4 mile with standard diff (3.77) and standard Type 9 gearbox. I went to buy an escort motor last week and the seller had more than just an engine for sale! Picked up this custom stainless pinto turbo manifold. Only a dirty old T25 on there as decoration only I did have a very good T28 but it was sold some time ago. Plenty of them for sale here in Australia all the time due to the massive interest in Jap import cars. So now I'm hungry for more power and have many questions/ looking for advice. Car will still be for the street but want to run into high 12sec 1/4 mile. My biggest hurdle is understanding how to convert to an EFI ignition. If I have to buy a turbo again is the T28 best? And is ball bearing worth the extra money? I already have exhaust manifold & W55 Supra box. Shopping list is Custom plenum/ intake manifold with XF falcon throttle body. FMIC T28 Haltech ECU Injectors (what size??) ACL Hypereutectic pistons Crow 26661 camshaft Cosworth head gasket I've been told to aim for a compression ratio of about 8.2:1 Hoping for around 250~300 "usable" hp at the wheels which should give me a high 12sec run? I've seen YB powered escorts here in Aust running 15sec 1/4 miles because they can't get traction! Any major considerations I need to make when designing the system? Also how much power from your Sierra here? Great job! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjzxiqRI2jYThanks

| Hi Jocke. Thanks for the warm welcome & compliments. Yes there are some very tough Fords here, but not much info on boosting Pintos! I look forward to some feedback from the Skogenracing team as I make progress on my escort! I have just bought a used JDM (ball bearing) T28 so I can't wait to see what that looks like on the flange plate That should get me motivated. Cheers | |

| You are welcome! Hehe, you have probably not google translated the project part in this forum. If you do you will find so many pinto turbo that you will be stuffed! Here is what i found in a quick search: Pinto projects | |

| Thanks Bobby! The ball bearing T28 turned up in the mail today. Great condition and huge compared to the T25 lol. I've also picked up a set of Cosworth rods and a Cosworth EFI distribitor which I'll run with Holden LS1 coil packs. Over the next few months I will try and source someone with a bit of talent to make the plenum. | |

| No machining needed for cosworth pistons and rods. Just hone the bores. Its the standard pistons in the pinto thats the weak point so you should really get the cosworth pistons with the rods and they can handle 400-500 whp. Dont need to worry about compression ratio. I think you get about 8,2:1 with cosworth parts in the pinto. | |

| Is 300hp at the wheels possible with a standard Sierra EFI manifold with larger throttle body & injectors, Haltech sport 1000 ECU? Also will the Crow 26661 camshaft (link above) with mild ported head & standard valves allow 300hp? Running 10:1 on E85 fuel! Thanks | |

| 10:1 compression ratio. We can run higher compression & boost with E85 fuel | |

| Why would you want that? And how would you get the higher compression? We have E85 on almost every pump here so very common and what almost everyone uses for big power here. | |

| Getting a higher compression ratio by shaving 30thou off the head. I've been told 8.2:1 might be a bit sluggish off boost? You're lucky having E85 everwhere. Only selected stations have it here. By the way if anyone has a Sierra EFI manifold for sale there and doesn't mind posting to Australia, please let me know! I also have family in Södermalm if that's more convenient Thanks | |

| I can't say how 10:1 will work with a 2 valve head. Anything is possible but I can't say if it will run better or worse. I would try the 8,2:1 first. And you have to make sure the valve don't hit the piston if you have a cam with more lift ofc.
No problem finding a EFI manifold here but I dont know if you want to pay the shipping. | |

| Thanks. I think shipping would be about 700SEK. Do they sell for around 1000SEK in Sweden? They sell here for around $500AUD so still a lot cheaper getting one from Europe. | |

| Found one here so all good. Needs a bit of a clean up. I was thinking of powdercoating it black, then exposing the patterns on top so they stand out. | |

| I picked this up today, it's a factory intercooler from Ford Falcon XR6 turbo. The dimensions are perfect 380W 260H 55D.These are cheap and plentiful because so many XR6T owners modify the barra engines and run bigger intercoolers. The guy I bought this from is a licensed mechanic and he also had concerns about how much needs to be machined off the pinto head & block if using standard YB rods & pistons (200 pinto block). I believe the CR would be somewhere around 7.2:1 without machining. So what are best option here? Keep YB rods, buy higher CR forged pistons? Keep YB pistons, buy longer chinese rods? Sell standard YB rods & pistons and buy new rod & piston set? | |

| If you machine the block and head you need to adjust the camshaft, i think 7,2:1 CR os low but it will work fine, i have done many pintos with that setup and they perform good! | |

| Thanks Mikael. What did you get the CR up to after machining? I'm wanting about 9:1 | |
